Applying to colleges is always a hectic time, but in order to increase your chance of success it is important to properly prepare yourself by giving yourself plenty of time to complete the application process. Not only does your University application need to be complete, but in order to have a successful application to a university, you will likely need letters of recommendation as well as supplemental items, such as an essay, SAT or ACT scores, and your high school and college transcripts.
Choosing Where to Study
Choosing where to study can make a big impact on your university experience. For many, that experience includes studying outside of the country as well as domestically. In order to accommodate this, Texas Tech University Admissions is accepting applications to our new Costa Rica Campus as well as our main campus in Lubbock, TX. Many of our students from both campuses come from around the United States and other countries. Being prepared is important in either case, however there are some extra considerations when applying to the Costa Rica campus. and many are helped by the checklist we provide for the application process.
- Complete application available online
- Pay application fee. For Texas Tech University Costa Rica, the fee is $75
- Submit high school transcripts as well as exit examinations. All transcripts should be provided in English. If the school does not translate, you can get a translation from an American Translator association certified translator.
- Submit Proof of English Proficiency. If you are applying from a non-English speaking country, you'll need to achieve adequate scores on the
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL),
- the Academic version of the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS),
- the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE),
- the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE),
- or the Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
Preparing Ahead
Regardless of where you choose to study, being prepared and organized is important to increase you chance of acceptance. It is important to be mindful of application deadlines.
There is a lot of things to remember with the application process, so getting help with your college application from your parents, school staff, or even from friends that have gone throughout the process can really help.
Because there may be delays getting transcripts or test scores, or even your letters of recommendation, it is best to submit an application well before the official deadline. Texas Tech University Admissions likes to see applications in by May 1st.
Submit a Clean Application and Materials
One of the best ways to assure that your application or materials don't get misplaced or lost in the shuffle is to use a consistent name across all testing and application materials, whether it is a nickname or your full name with or without your middle name or initial included.
It will help both you and the admissions offices at the schools you apply to stay organized and reduce the chance of materials being misplaced.
If it seems as if something might have went wrong when you submitted your application, contact the school rather than submitting a new application that might create confusion.
Before you either mail or submit an application online, it is also important to walk away then come back and proofread to make sure everything looks its best.
